    My grandfather Julian Bortko

    Bortko Julian - born July 26, 1915 in Vilnius province m.Zabore Disna Uruchcha Pliska parish. He graduated from the four classes of the Polish school.
    He was drafted into the Polish Army border guard 16 Pułk Piechoty (Tarnów). He served on the borders and Slobodka, Druja, then served on the Latvian border.
    For services to the Service Corps of the border July 11, 1938 was awarded the «Brązowy Krzyż Zasługi».
    1st September 1939, Germany invaded Poland, World War II started. First days of September began to mobilize, Bortko Julian was drafted into the Wilno 5 or 6 Pułk Piechoty. Not fully formed division of Wilno popped through Narew and Bug in Warszawa. Under Warszawa regiment is surrounded by m Garwolin. The resistance was broken, 18-Th thousand soldiers and officers were sent to the camp m Białystok. The conditions were terrible, there were no barracks, surrounded by a common field of wire and obstacles. The soldiers, whatever frozen asleep on each other, forming a calamity living mounds. And on the morning of the bottom were already dead. A year later, these conditions of 18 have only a 6-Th thousands. Then they were in 1940, half-dead were loaded into trains and sent to East Prussia. There's a m Rissel was sent to work for the owner (Wichorn Valentin). Foreign land was not in favor. His condition was critical, he ferried to the rear. After the hospital in May 1944, would return to the Polish army, but was sent to the 28th Infantry Regiment of the Soviet Army.     Бортко Юлиан - родился 26 июля 1915 года в м.Заборье Виленской губернии Дисненского уручья Плиской волости. Окончил четыре класса польской школы.
    Был призван в Войско Польское пограничником 16 Pułk Piechoty (Tarnów). Проходил службу на границах Slobodka и Druja, затем служил на Латышской границе.
    За заслуги в службе корпуса охраны пограничной 11 июля 1938 года был награжден орденом «Brązowy Krzyż Zasługi».
    1-го сентября 1939 года Германия напала на Польшу, началась Вторая Мировая война. Впервые же дни сентября началась мобилизация, Бортко Юлиан был мобилизован в Wilno 5 или 6 Pułk Piechoty. Не полностью сформированная дивизия выдвинулась из Wilno через Narew и Bug к Warszawa. Под Warszawa полк попадает в окружение м. Garwolin. Сопротивление было сломлено, 18-ть тысяч солдат и офицеры были отправлены в лагерь м. Białystok. Условия были ужасные, не было бараков, обычное поле обнесенное проволокой и заграждениями. Солдаты, что бы ни замерзнуть спали друг на друге, образуя этакие живые курганы. А на утро нижние были уже мертвы. Через год таких условий из 18-ти осталось только 6-ть тысяч. Затем их в 1940 году полуживых погрузили в эшелоны и отправили в Восточную Пруссию. Там в м. Риссель был направлен на работы к хозяину (Wichorn Валентин). Чужбина была не в милость. За очередные побеги избивали и травили собаками, так продолжалось 3-и года. В 1943 году был отправлен под Киев для строительства немецких оборонительных сооружений на Днепре и там весной очередной раз бежал. Добрался до Белоруссии, полуживой попал к партизанам. Состояние было критическое, его переправляют в тыл. После госпиталя в мае 1944 года хотел вернуться в Польскую армию, но направили в 28-й стрелковый полк Советской армии. В котором с боями доходит до Берлина. 28-го апреля 1945 года входе уличных боев натыкается в магазине одежды на переодевавшихся в гражданскую одежду офицеров SS. Завязался бой, был тяжело ранен. Затем госпиталь и ампутация левой руки.
    За храбрость, стойкость и мужество проявленную в боях, в сентябре 1946 года был награжден орденом «Отечественной Войны» 2-й степени.
