I spotted these statues on a street in Krakow called Józefa Piłsudskiego, named after Józef Piłsudski the hero of the Polish/Soviet war in the 1920s, he is still regarded as a hero by modern Poles and i even spotted a t shirt with his portrait on it!...

He always was and will be a national hero. He is buried with Polish Royalty at Wawel in Cracow.

I often think of similar things myself, when we stayed in Krakow 2 years ago we stayed in an apartment next door to this place Plaque Bombing Cafe "Cyganeria" - Kraków - TracesOfWar.com it is now a small supermarket but looks very much the same. Pleased to help you!....

There are many sites related to Józef Piłsudski in Kraków. One of the most striking is Sowiniec. You should also visit the Museum in Oleandry (Muzeum Czynu Niepodległościowego), the place where he started the Polish war against Russia on August 6th, 1914.
