Without a major knowledge on it i would guess a student cap, or maybe some to do with the railways
Definitely not military or even paramilitary. For me it looks like a students one with attached military buttons. There was a plenty of those students caps in pre-war Poland. Each higher school got a little different one.
Thanks guys, I am also pretty sure now its a student cap of some type. I wonder which academy's colours were brown and gold?
I did find on the Polish students fraternity museum a small photo of students that seem to be wearing similar style caps but its such a small shot its hard to see clearly so I might try and contact them next.

I know as undergraduate at Riga Technical University Gen. Anders became a member of the Polish student fraternity Arkonia and that many of his chosen officers were also Arkonia members... thus bringing the thread back to a military theme
