Hi Guys, here is a modern post war cap badge from my collection.

I was at one of our living history shows dressed as Red Army man last year, when I got talking to a couple of Polish lads who were now living in the UK. We had quite a long chat. About 30 mins later one of the lads came back and gave me this cap badge for my collection. He told me it was the same as he wore in the Army and he wanted me to have it. It was very kind I thought.

Agreed, these communist occupation era designs are less than inspired, to say the least, especially when one considers the magnificent pre-war and exile forces eagles.

As bad as those examples are, worse yet is a genuine pre-war eagle badge – especially a rare and desirable version - that has been emasculated by having the crown cut off. Almost enough to make a grown man cry.

Of course I do understand what you are saying, but the “story it tells”, at least to me, is a very sad one indeed. And equally so that it remains a largely unknown tragic chapter of WW2.

Without getting to deep into the history, while Europe was celebrating victory and liberation from Nazi Germany, Stalin’s henchmen continued their bloodbath on Polish soil by rooting out and liquidating all elements that had fought so courageously to restore freedom. The following is just one example of the terrible betrayal of the Poles – well worth reading:
