An interesting "Bescheinigung" document from the time of the Warsaw Rising.
Attached to the front of a Police Registration document for Stanisław Pedowski and his family.
The Bescheinigung/Certificate issued by the PKO organisation in Białaczów dated 7. IX. 1944 states:
Bescheinigung/Certificate
I hereby certify that Stanisław Pedowski born 1.5.1896 was transported on 06.09.1944 as "refugee" from Pruszków to Białaczów. Issued with Ausweis no. 64143.
P.K.O.
During the 1944 Warsaw Uprising, the Nazis created a large transit camp (Durchgangslager) in Pruszków on the site of the Train Repair Shops (Zakłady Naprawcze Taboru Kolejowego) in which to intern the evacuees expelled from the capital during the Rising. Around 550,000 VArsovians and approximately 100,000 more from the outskirts of Warsaw were incarcerated in the Durchgangslager 121 (Dulag 121) set up for this purpose before being transported to work camps.
The date 06.09.1944 coincides with fall of the Old Town which was 1-2 September when the insurgents famously escaped the German siege of the Old Town through the sewer system; leaving behind some 30,000 civilians and 7,000 wounded combatants. It is very likely that Stanisław Pedowski was in one of these groups left behind.
