THE BLACK DEVILS MARCH
Part 2
A Motorcycle Dispatch Rider
We wish to present our next display with character of soldier from Polish Forces on the West (Polskie Siły Zbrojne na Zachodzie – PSZ) - 1st Polish Armoured Division under general S. Maczek.
Our first presentation was a platoon commander of 1st Polish Armoured Division and you can see this display here:

We created also a figure of Ukrainian girl soldier of Red Army medic troops from the Eastern Front, which you can see here:
RED ARMY - medical instructor
The inspiration to create the next display was a real character of Tadeusz Tkacz, not much known, modest man, whom life could be a screenplay for action movie, and his way to the 1st Polish Armoured Division was very untypical and amazing.
We met Tadeusz many years ago, and he told us about his war adventures and his fate during World War II. His presence is a symbol of Polish fight spirit and bravery, and also a symbol of affection of freedom and romantic spirit.
In September of 1939 as a boyscout he was defending Polish land against the entering German Army. Later, as he was living in Silesia, the Germans wanted to take him to the Wehrmacht. The Germans were treating the area of Silesia as a part of Germany, not occupied Poland, so also the people from this region were treat as native Germans by the Nazis.
Tadeusz ran away to central Poland, and in area of city Kielce he joined a group of partisans. When "liberating" Red Army enter Poland in 1944 Tadeusz ran to occupied Czech Republic and than to Austria, but he had been cought by the Germans and sent to concentration camp Mauthausen. As a prisoner he was sent to clear the streets of Linz from ruins after Allied air raids. He escaped succesfuly with his friend and after long and dangerous way they crossed the border of Principality of Liechtenstein, where they were safe, however completely exhausted. Their brave escape became so much famous, that even the Duchess of Liechtenstein visited them in the hospital.
After Tadeusz felt better and get back the strength he moved to Switzerland and than to France, which had been liberated already. He joined Polish Army and became a Motorcycle Dispatch Rider in 1st Polish Armoured Division. He got a motorcycle, which he was dreaming about before, and he had a Colt M1911A1 pistol, which was the best gun ever made, as he always say.
When the war was over, he bought the motorcycle from the Army and returned with his vehicle to Poland. He was persecuted by communist regime, however he succesfuly finnished the studies as veterinary surgeon. Taking the photos was his passion, and thanks to that he recorded incredible photo documentation of Silesian city Raciborz (Ratibor before the war). The town had been captured by the Soviets untouched, as the Germans did not defend it, but drunk Soviet soldiers burned the city and totally destroyed it.

There are some photos of Polish troops in Scotland and photos from campaign of 1944 / 1945. Also some pieces of field equipment used by Polish Forces on the West in 1940 and 1944 / 45 period.
