    Yes, the eagle does appear to be gazing “eastward”, but the hand painted eagle is generally weakly rendered. Collecting in this area is beyond risky, and authentication based on photos alone is not possible. My impression is that the blotchy patches and wear seem contrived. Best wishes to whoever purchased it.

    Thanx for the reply Tony!
    I must say that I doubt until the last moment;
    because it's looking very good; the paint is old and looks weather-beaten with the rest of the helmet and the eagle is not placed very well centered- for me personal is this a good sign but i read on the forum that this Original painted helmets are very rare and it's indeed very hard to take a correct and good judgement about this helmets, so i left the auction without placing a bid.

    Kind regards,
    Pieter.

    Hi Pieter, sorry that I’ve overlooked your previous post and the question you asked. I strive to catch all posted questions although sometime fall victim to my aging eyeballs.

    Dog tags have been discussed here and there, but there’s no single thread devoted to the topic as far as I recall. It seems to be topic worthy of a dedicated thread, so perhaps you want to start one - ?

    As far as your question about French dog tag issue, I would expect this to be a routine part of the registration process for Poles arriving in France shortly after the September Campaign in 1939. I don’t know anything about their manufacture in France, so hopefully someone will chime in and we can both learn something new.

    Cheers,
    Tony

    This particular Mk II flashed to the Polish Brigade in Exile is currently up on the auction block these can be an absolute nightmare
    I do not get the immediate warm and fuzzies and it is not a one looker in my eye but thought I would post it up for the consideration of others as my knowledge base on the Polish Eagle and its war time variations is very limited .

    Thanx Tony for the reply on the thread for the French made dog tags .

    It is indeed a good idea to start a topic for this subject;
    These tags on the photographs are on the way to me and as soon as they arrive, i will start a topic for WW2 period dog tags.

    Oo and btw; there is nothing wrong with aging eyeballs .

    Thanx!
    Kind regards, Pieter.
