Hi James, this is a very deceptive fake. I suppose we could call this the second in the series of these bogus badges, the first which were mistakenly (and surprisingly) produced without the four holes for mounting the badge to the beret.

Three things to watch for: the very few known genuine badges I have seen (one of which I own) have less of a slope to the rhomboid as well as a larger surface area. Also, the metal backing is not brass. There are other minor differences as well, but I'll limit my comments so as not to assist the counterfeiters should they view this site and use this information to refine their fakes.
