It's a shame he embellished his jackets post war with the bullion wings. However, his to as he pleases. There are a wide number of makers of the metal wings and they are copied too. here is a link to some - but a word of cation there are many wings on this site that are known fakes, copies etc. being attributed as original, so this site is by no means gospel. From one perspective they came from the vet and are 'authentic' to him, but they may or may not be wartime - peoples lives change and vets aren't immune from getting rid of things they then get notaslgic for years later and replace with similar items (not saying this happen, but the erroneous RAF wings give mepause). I don't know much about Polish wings but there are some very good references and collectors around.

Hi Michel,

The wings appear to be genuine workshop made type, cast from molds made using pre-war Knedler made examples. These were initially produced during the first years of the war in the UK as replacements for arriving Polish pilots who had lost theirs. This topic is covered elsewhere on this forum. Eventually makers such as Gaunt, Spink and Firmin were given production orders.
