    hello im new to the forums so please bare with me
    any information would be great and would be a massive help!
    all i have on my grandfather is his dog tags from world war 2
    i have tried for months trying to find information on them with no joy!
    i was hoping that anyone on here could help thanks lee

    Hello Lee and welcome. Your grandfather’s dog tags reveal the following:

    A.P = Armia Polska = Polish Army
    1914 = Year of birth
    317 = Registration Number
    III = Army Recruiting Command: APW (Polish Army in the East) / 2nd Corps (Italy)
    RZ KAT = Rzymski Katolik (Roman Catholic) - religious affiliation

    And the rest you already know:
    PLAT = surname
    BERNARD = Christian name

    The dog tag set should also contain one with this same information but green colour and an octagonal shape. Here’s my father’s:

    Thanks for the reply tony, thats all we have unfortunately is there anyway of tracing any more information about him
    its quite a mystery in our family and both grandparents have deceased thanks lee

    The following thread contains some avenues you could investigate. To obtain your grandfather’s service records from the Ministry of Defense there’s a fee (I believe now set at £30) and you’ll need to provide a copy of your grandfather’s death certificate.
