    Andrew,
The best way of checking the badges is to do the reverse ! ... look for what should be there, and if the basics don't add up, reject it !

Here is a classic copy which appeared in England around 2003.
There were at least a hand full made, and for around a year or so, they popped up at fairs and on E-bay.
It's an attempt at a Kirkwood wing.
Immediately the two things that stand out are the "open backed" number 4, and the fixing of the stud ... which seems to be friction welded or glued, into a depression. (In fact it is a screw that has been friction welded or glued into a counter bored seat, ... )

Therefore ... two things that should not be there .... Immediate rejection !

    921 "Duplicat"
An attempt at a kirkwood contemporary re-issue.

    Poor quality material ...
    Wrong spelling of Duplicat
    Letter stamps too large !
    Poor stud
    Poor stud fixing

Bad attempt at a combat wing.

    Wrong fixings.
BUT, an original unissued combat wreath attached.(Incorrectly)

Note ... the wing might be an original unissued .. but without closer inspection "in the flesh" it's difficult to determine.

    2997 .... A difficult one

Wrong style of numbers for a GR-TECH wing.
Definition to front of badge poor.
    Metal finishing too bright.
    Wreath attachment poor. (possible re-attach).

All in all a "just fail" ....

All below are copies .. bar the "50" jump post war communist issue.
.. Note the spinner nuts ... cast off originals ... quenched while hot in oil to fake age.
