    Andrzej, could you please let me know to whom was the cross number 4665 originally awarded?
    I attach pictures of the Polish Cross for Combatant Action in the West and the Monte Cassino cross number 4665. They were both awarded to the same soldier. Would be very grateful for your help!

    Rank : Bombadier (Lance Corporal Artillery)

    Surname: GODLEWSKI

    Christian Name: ZENON

    Date of Birth : 1918

    Army Number : (also found on His ID Tags) : 1918-4-III

    Unit : 3KPAL (3rd Capathian Light Artillery Regiment)

    By the end of the war he was a Kapral (Corporal), unfortunately that was all I was able to glean for you, I hope that it is of some use and help.

    Kapral Andrzej Stańczyk KW and Bar 1922

    Plk Andrzej Stańczyk born 28th November 1902 awarded the KW and Bar during the Polish-Bolshevik war, in 1923 accepted into Officer Cadet school graduated in 1925 as a Podporucznik posted to 2PPLegion between 1925-1927, KOP 1928, 5PSP 1932-1939.
    1940 Coëtquidan picking men for the Podhale Brigade, fought during the Norwegian Campaign and was awarded the Silver Virtuti Militari Cross Nr: 8967 and KW and the Norwegian War Cross Numbered 92.

    In July 1943 made Commanding Officer of the 16th Rifle Battalion, 5KDP fought at Monte Cassino and Ancona, for the Italian Campaign he was awarded the Gold Cross Virtuti Militari Nr: 40, the Italian War Cross and the USA Legion of Merit Officer Cross.

    Pplk Andrzej Stańczyk was promoted to Pulkownik by President August Zaleski in 1965, he died 2 days after his 71Birthday on the 30th November 1973 in Lubnia and is buried in the cemetery there.

    My friend's grandfather saw how during one battle in Italy he was injured and fell into the river. Could we check somehow what happened, is he alive or not?
