    Hello Artem,

Many thanks for your post, I have looked through the recipients of the Monte Cassino Cross for Aleksander Kondratowich, unfortunately I could not find anyone listed with that spelling.

But I did find the following Strzelec Aleksander Kondratowicz, Son of Piotr born 1908, Army Number: 1908-49-III, Unit 9 Kompania Łączności (9th Signals Company), awarded the Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 31073.

He was either a pre war Regular or Reservist arrested on the 19th September 1939 in Wolkowysk and joined the Anders Army at Tatiszczewo on the 3rd September 1941.

That is all that I have been able to find for you Artem.

    Best wishes

    Andrzej
    Dear Andrzej,

Thank you! Yes, you are right his last name is KondratowiCZ.
I have a copy of his Discharge certificate (dated 1948) and there is nothing about his awards. How it could be?

    Br,
    Artem

    Hello Artem,

Many thanks for your post by discharge certificate do you mean like the one shown below:

    Monte Cassino cross

The only way of finding out what awards he received would be via his Service Record.

You can guess that if he came from the Russian gulags and fought with the 2nd Corps he would have received the Medal Wojsko and the standard British awards : 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, 1939-1945 Defence Medal.

If he was serving with the SBSK in Tobruk, you could add the Africa Star and the 1939-1945 War Medal.

I hope that the above is of some use and help to you Artem.

    Best wishes

    Andrzej

    Andrzejku,

I have passed on the information you kindly provided to the son of Jan Mika.
He tells me that he has no army photos of his father. He was only two when he died and his mother remarried ,medals and photos were lost.
Would it be possible to obtain a photo from records?

I attach a photo of his step fathers Stefan Godawa medal display.

    Regards Boguslaw

    Hello Bogusław,

Many thanks for your post, I very much doubt that records would contain a photograph, the best thing to do would be to contact the M-o-D (Polish Section) and ask them if they have one on record.

Otherwise it may be lost too time.

A nice group belonging to his Stepfather Saper Stefan Godawa, Born in 1914, Army Number : 1914-159-III, Unit Dowodztwo Saperow 5 K.D.P. (5th Kresowa Infantry Division Engineers, Monte Cassino Cross Numbered 25380. He married in 1949 and died in 1997 in Berkshire.

Just a mention Bogusław, the 1939-1945 Star as its ribbon the wrong way round it should be from left to right: dark blue (Royal Navy) Red (Army) Light Blue (Royal Air Force).

    Best wishes

    Andrzej
