Is it possible to identify the MC cross number and unit details of a soldier, if I know only his name and place of birth?

    Hi Andrzej

I can see from the posts that you are the source of the details for the MCC queries

I wondered if you could assist me with the details that I posted up on a new thread for No 31594

Apologies if you had already spotted this ... I am attempting to post up some images but am new to the forum.

    Kind regards

    Gary

    Andrzej,

This is kind of complicated. The soldier I am looking for is my long lost uncle, Jan Bomba or Jan Borowski (he changed his last name somewhere during the war). Birthplace was Wyśmierzyce or Warsaw, can't remember now. I am almost sure he was in 5KDP. I could find more in family archives but don't have access to them at the moment. Would this be enough to check?

    Hello Esco,

Many thanks for your post, I have looked through the register of Recipients of the Monte Cassino Cross, the only Bomba's listed were as follows:

    1) Antoni Bomba 5BSK

    2) Henryk Bomba 21KT

    3) Władysław Bomba 5BSK

    4) Władysław Bomba 7PAK

With regards to Jan Borowski there were only 2 listed:

    1) Major Lek. Dr. Born in 1885, Army Number : 1885-150-III, Unit : 1SW, Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 42330

    2) Plut.pch. Born in 1918, Army Number : 1918-150-III, Unit : P6Panc, Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 30449.

That is all that I was able to find for you Esco unfortunately none were in 5KDP.

    Best wishes

    Andrzej

Many many thanks for your detailed reply :0) ... now I have some info to go I would like to see if I could research Bolesław's military career further .. is there a way of checking to see if he was in N Africa before Italy ?

I would like to put his MCC alongside the British medals he would have been awarded which if he was only serving in Italy would be I presume the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the War and Defence medals.

I am posting up the images I promised and am intrigued to know what the beetle badge is ( 9th Supply Company perhaps ? )
