    Hi.
I'm probably not doing this right so sorry in advance.
I have what I beleive is a genuine Monte casino cross but it has 48930 on it.
It is in a box of other Polish medals and badges given to me about 25 years ago by an old friend of my fathers.
If anyone could help me identify these I would love to have some help.
The back of a polish underground badge is engraved with the original owner's name.

    Hello Geoff,

May I be the first to welcome you to the Forum, the Monte Cassino Cross you were given is original but unfortunately it was never awarded to any individual. After the Initial awards had been made the remainder where stored with the Polish Government in Exile in their Embassy in London in Portland Place.

In the 1970's these were sold to various dealers including Spink and Son in St James's, I remember going into their Medal Department and being shown drawers full of awards made by Spink's and over 20 Monte Cassino Crosses all of which where unawarded.

With regards to identifying the other medals for you Geoff if you could add some photographs that would make it a lot easier to identify what else you have.

    Best wishes

And once again WELCOME to the Forum

    Andrzej

    Hi guys.
Thankyou for the prompt and detailed reply.
I have taken a picture of the collection and will load it up here in a day or two.
I can't seem to do that from my phone.
    Thanks again.
It's good to know that it is origional.
Was there more than one made with this specific number?
There seem to be a lot of the same ones.
    All the best.
    Geoff

    Hello
Is Crosses MC production still in progress?
What did the teddybits set based on entries from other MCC forums:
,,On one of the US portals I found numbers and forms along with the machine to make fakes MCC..."
You need to look closely at the ribbons.
Geoffflint Can you take a picture of the cross itself obverse and reverse?
    Best wishes
    Artur

    Hello Everyone,

Having watched the Monte Cassino Cross link on youtube that Artur kindly posted in post Number 1473, it seems that the maker of the film used information from Wikipedia the majority of which came from Professor Wesolowski in the US.

He quotes that 1502 crosses were sold off after 1989, when in fact 48,828 were awarded from the 50,000 crosses produced for the Polish Government which left 1,172 crosses. These were being sold off in the late 1970's by the Government in Exile to medal dealers in London.

The commentator also goes on to state that the lists held by the PISM are in Regimental blocks only, if only he had contacted the Forum or read the Posts he would be all the wiser.

To Answer your question Artur on are they still being produced, not officially, but some one is making the fakes and passing them off as genuine, the one shown on You Tube has a modern produced ribbon. But even the ribbon can not guarantee and original cross, some times veterans if they had their medals remounted on a medal bar would have the ribbon replaced by the firm doing the work.

Artur I could not understand your comment "What did the teddybits set based on entries from other MCC forums:" what did you mean to say?

No doubt there will be more written on this subject in the future.

    Best wishes

    Andrzej
