    Dear Artur,

Thank you so much for the information provided. It is a great feeling to learn more about my great-grandfather as his story was always a mystery. I will continue doing my research, as I would like to learn more about his journey and the time in the army.

    Have a lovely evening!

    Hello Simona,

May I be the first to welcome you to the War Relics Forum, with regards to your Great Grandfather Bolesław Bielski, the best thing to do to find out what he did during the war would be to apply to the British Ministry of Defence to obtain a copy of his Service Record.

Be sure to ask for copies of everything they have otherwise you might just receive a 1 or 2 page letter outlining his service details.

The British Ministry of Defence charge for this service, everything is explained on their website click the link below.

Requests for personal data and service records: a detailed guide - GOV.UK

Simona you mentioned in your post the Monte Cassino Cross Numbered : 31013 this was awarded to Strzelec Jan Bielski, born in 1924, Army Number (also found on His ID Tags) : 1924-48-III, Unit : 9th Signals Company, 2nd Armoured Brigade.

Now with regards to your Great Grandfather Bolesław Bielski the register of recipients of the Monte Cassino Cross list him as follows:

Rank : Starszy Strzelec (Lance Corporal)

    Surname : Bielski

    Christian Name : Bolesław

    Date of Birth : 1909

Army Number : (also found on His ID Tags) : 1909-104-III

Unit : 18 Baon Strzelec, 5KDP (18th Rifle Battalion, 5th Kresowa Infantry Division)

Awarded Monte Cassino Cross : 19338

I also thought that you might like to see a photograph of your Great Grandfather's grave in Bologna Polish War Cemetery

Simona I sincerely hope that the above information is of some use and help to you and corrects what Artur had commented.

    Hello Majchrziii ,

Many thanks for your post, yes the PISM will be publishing the Register of Recipients of the Monte Cassino Cross, when I do not know, but Dr Suchcitz said he will let me know.

Remember the Institute and Museum is a registered charity and as such relies on donations.

Sorry that I can not help you further with this matter

    Best wishes

    Andrzej
