Monte Cassino cross

Whilst surfing this morning I found the following Monte Cassino Cross for sale Numbered : 16130



When awarded the recipients details were as follows:

Rank : Strzelec (Rifleman)

Surname : Zapanowicz

Christian Name : Stanisław

Fathers Name : Józef

Date of Birth : Tuesday 25th July 1911

Army Number : (also found on His ID Tags) : 1911-113-III

Unit : 13BS, 5KDP

Other awards received : Army Medal, Bronze Cross of Merit with Swords, British Awads : 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, Defence Medal.

During the September 39 Campaign he was a serving soldier captured by the soviets in Dubno on the 19th September and joined the Anders Army at Tatiszczewo on the 3rd September 1941.

After the end of the war he came to the UK with his Battalion and settled in the Polish camp at Newton Abbot in Devon where he died on Tuesday 1st August 1989 after celebrating his 78th Birthday. His Estate still remains unclaimed according to the internet.

Is it possible to provide what happened to these officers after the completion of combat operations and the PKRP solution.-PRC & ATS PRS.
The prepared notes will not be included in any book study, but only to clarify the further fate of these brave soldiers. Are there any photos from cemeteries available?
Is it possible to give the numbers of Monte Cassino Crosses and VM crosses if they were awarded?

Some of them are on the ŻDANOWICZ list and returned to Poland after the war.

In your Post Nr 2116, you stated that you could not find information on 3 former soldiers of the 2nd Corps, I have been able to confirm only one :

1) Kapral Józef Ślubecki Born 1898, Army Nr : 1898-194-III, Unit : 31 Kompania Sanitarna, Monte Cassino Cross Nr : 43376

The only Stefan Gutowski awarded the Monte Cassino Cross was born in 1917, Army Nr : 1917-16-III, Unit : 5 Baon Łączność, MCC Nr : 26169.

Unfortunately no record for Saper Konstanty Bubieńczyk.

Ryszard Huma-Szabelski, former Plut.pchr., Born : 1920, Army Nr : 1920-31-III, Unit : 301 Kompania Saperow (301st Engineering Company), Monte Cassino Cross Nr : 40122.

Prior to 1939 he was serving in the 77pp as a Szer. (Private)

Kapral Stanisław Olejnik, 16 Baon Strzelec (16th Infantry Battalion, 5KDP), KW, MW, MCC Nr : 18220, Born : 1923, Army Nr : 1923-40-III.

Born 13th August 1923 Stanisław Olejnik died on the 24th February 2012.
