I picked up this odd little (approx. 50mm tall) woolen "good luck" talisman figure a couple of months ago and wondered about the significance if any of the red and green colour choice in relation to Polish paras?

Probably made by a sweetheart ??
.. The material, plain wool, makes me think that it was made of non military "issue" cloth, and probably a childs charm to a para.

I have seen odd sweetheart items and even bindings from books, with para cord integrated, as an unofficial "official" connection, ... and of course the infamous para silk dresses.

My mother did at one point, have a blouse made from parachute cord and silk .... but hat has been lost to time.

As for good luck charms ..
My father carried in his paybook, a sprig taken from a bush on the Mount of Olives in Gethsemany. (Taken whilst with the 3DSK on leave in the Jerusalem area.)

I think you are right Gary, most likely a "sweetheart" charm.

For a Catholic having that sprig from a bush on the Mount of Olives must have been truly special. Does it still survive with you father's things?
