That may be true (and I would say is true), but the Germans had, and some say still do, a certain 'way' of detaching themselves from the reality of their immorality. And perhaps as a nation - not to the degree the Germans did in the years 1933 to 1945. Or even earlier.
I know that various nations and empires did terrible things from the Romans destroying Carthage, to the British introducing smallpox to North American natives, to Pol Pot and the genocide in Cambodia and in between and after.
But the German nation in the 20th century was an advanced, educated, Western, Christian nation. The sad part is as a species, the human race is getting much better at destroying ourselves to the present day. Will we be able to keep our finger off the button?
