Polish Hat Eagles

Article about: In my opinion this particular cap eagle was made by G.J. Garratt Toronto. Very unique, hard to find.

I believe that this cap eagle is a current reproduction being sold in Poland.

In 2010 in Chicago at the PNA camp I participated in a 1939 campaign re-enactment.

There was a Polish vendor there selling about 8-10 different Polish insignia (cap eagles, breast badges, ) all cast with very similar spin discs.

From a few feet away they look good.

I bought a number of them and use them in my impression......just can't be wearing the originals out on the field.

    cheers,

    Piwo

    Fellows,

Pictures of the Eagle recently sold on Ebay .
Pictures are not good – but it looks like a) interesting variant or b) some sort of repo – I am not sure.,

I think it is worth posting.

    Anybody any suggestions?
It's an early variant of a ME hat badge like you can see in the picture below. Teheran/Iran badges are hard to find. The only thing that doesn't match the badge is the nut but it's not a big deal. Best.

The ME badge in the picture wadowicznic posted is not a cast badge. Is is stamped brass zinc plated.
The badges you can see in the picture, which I posted are stamped brass and stamped copper. See the reverse in the photo below.
The early ME stamped brass/copper badges are natural surface, zinc or silver plated. You never judge a hat badge by the nut, do you. Brass or copper cast ME hat badges is another story. Best.

It appeared to be a cast badge to me.

No, I do not usually pass judgement on articles authenticity by the fastener.

A single pictures is worth a thousand words but.....holding it in your own hand counts for so much more.

I was not disparaging the article but merely replying to an inquiry or a a request for opinions.

I will photograph all of the reproductions items I purchased in Chicago and post for all to see in the near future.

I just returned from Toronto, Canada where I was able to meet with and share collecting my interests with a number of members of this forum.

    Hi Piwo,

Sure Have a look at another one. I took the picture with my phone. This one is 52x34x1.2 mm., stamped brass silver plated.

A nice one, isn’t it? I love the ME hat badges. Each one is different.

    Best,

    Pit

For your viewing pleasure here's an interesting piece from a local friend's collection. This is a large sized nicely crafted bullion thread eagle. To give an idea of its size I put it next to standard sized officer hat eagles. I’m not certain what the purpose of the eagle is, or its age.

    Hello Tony,

I think that this eagle might be from an air force pennon "proporzec".
A proprzec is smaller than a banner, it measures only 57x48 cm. A traditional Polish military banner measures 100X100 cm.

    Below is an interesting link.

Thanks Hubal. It very well maybe a proporzec eagle. The size seems just about right for that application.

    Fellows,

Worth posting for the record (recently sold /offered in Poland) - “France/ Paris 39 Eagle”

We have discussed this pattern on the forum before.

Seeing varius pictures, looks like there had been 2-3 versions of finish and 1-2 versions of fastening.

My experience is that this Eagle has been heavily copied.
