Polish Monte Casino Cross: Real or Fake????

Hi again guys,

What do you think about this one?
The ribbon seems OK, but what about the cross? There is no wear by time or use?!?!?!

Could this one be a later unawarded original monte cassino cross???

I've read that these crosses have high numbers in the upper 48,500 to 49,999 range and remained at the headquarters of the Polish Government in London until 1989 (polish history, geneology polish, family history poland, medals, military history - The Order of the Virtuti Militari and its Cavaliers 1792-1992)

48,498 is the last awarded number.
so, yes, this one is an un issued one.
but it seems quite ok

Hi,

I just thought that you might like to know that the last issued Number of the Monte Cassino Cross' was 48821 and not 48498 has listed in many books and by Professor Wesolowski on his web site.

The difference is made up of recipients missed off unit awards, the majority coming from 5KDP.

Oddzial interpretacji zdjec Lotniczych Nr: 48554-48580 etc.

It's always the little bits that get missed.

Thanks for this information. So that makes the unissued crosses scarcer by 323 units!

Andrzejku, do you or anyone else here know if the last cross produced was stamped 49999 or 50000?
