Polish Regimental Badges WW2

Hi Tony, Thanks for your thoughtful reply,I appreciate it.I know very little, other than family oral history. There are no other documents regarding his military service,just a few more photos which I will post soon.
So few of them risked going home. Its particularly sad for the ones who fought for the Allies. My father was on the losing side so its understandable that he could not.He was exactly the same age as your father,born 1922,moved to England 1947 from Germany. He was offered Canada but would have had to wait too long for transfer. If he had been more patient I could have been your neighbour, HaHa. When the Communists discovered he was missing his family, Parents, 3 brothers & 1 sister were arrested(1 brother shot dead trying to escape).They were sent to Siberia for 10 years.The last time he saw them was in 1941. What wonderful Dads we had that they could go thru all they did and still build a life in foreign lands. best wishes ,Alex

Very sad story, and testifies to the bitter reality for the Poles that while most of the continent was celebrating Victory in Europe the terror and murder continued unabated in their homeland. It certainly validates the apprehension felt by so many of the soldiers, airmen and sailors about returning to Poland, and that there was a basis for the rumours that were making their way out to the west.

Yes, our father’s and many others did overcome sizeable obstacles in restarting their lives from scratch, the vast majority becoming successful and productive contributors to the societies where they settled. My dad was no exception, a very good decent man and father, although the war years definitely shaped his character and left some permanent scars.

Hi Alex,

The only Piotr Perchacz, that I could find was born in 1907, his fathers name was Bazyli, this Piotr Perchacz was arrested in 1940 no further information was available on the web site Index of victims of soviet repression.

First off, congratulations to this thread for hitting the 200,000 views plateau

It is firmly entrenched in the top six most viewed threads on the War Relics Forum.

Now, regarding the 2WAD signals battalion collar badge posted above I'm quite certain that they were never officially produced for this unit. This is the first such badge I've seen. And this example has some shaky details that doesn't help its cause. This might be trial sample or simply a fantasy piece. Bialkiewicz produced copies of some of the "przypuszczalne projekty" - badges that were designed but ultimately rejected. I see it pictured on the drawing provided, but that doesn't necessarily mean it existed. (What publication is this taken from?). Sorry I can't offer more, but hopefully maybe someone else can.

I agree. The badge is piece of fake but… The drawing is taken from the article written by Marek Wroński in Tarnogórski Rocznik Muzealny. This is a copy from PISM archive provided that 2nd Warsaw Signals Battalion collar badge was approved by 2nd Polish Corps Headquarter. Why it was never produced ?

PS. Could you point out (show?) badges made by Białkiewicz - designed and rejected by proper authorities.

I don't think has ever been a definitive identification list of the badges designed or produced by Białkiewicz. I have seen this 2WAD signals battalion collar badge before but do not know if it was an official introduction or as Tony remarked a "fantasy" piece or a design prototype.

I do like this badge though... it looks very well made and crisply detailed
