During WW2 many air forces tested the concept of motherships carrying combat aircraft. I would say all but the Soviet designs were Despair , a vain attempt to increase combat range at the cost of the pilot and plane in most cases . But the Soviet designs were pre-war tests , and I don't think they were ever used in combat . Just my thought .
