Conversation overheard on the VHF Guard (emergency) frequency 121.5 MHz while flying from Europe to Dubai .

Iranian Air Defense Site: 'Unknown aircraft, you are in Iranian airspace. Identify yourself.'

Aircraft: 'This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace.'

Air Defense Site: 'You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our airspace, we will launch interceptor aircraft!'

Aircraft: 'This is a United States Marine Corps FA-18 Fighter. Send 'em up, I'll wait!'

Air Defense Site: (... Total silence)

Not as good as the one from years back between a ship and an unknown contact- the last pair of 'transmissions' are the ship identifying itself as a US Navy aircraft carrier so the contact better give way or it'll be rammed, and the contact's reply is 'this is a lighthouse- your call.' LOL

I have never needed much of an excuse to remind everyone of this little gem.....

We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker of course, and the end cannot be far.
It seems a pity, but I do not think I can write more. R. SCOTT.

TOTALLY. The Brits are the world masters of dry wit. Although that poor kid was a bit of an easy target- not much challenge there. Now Hardy Krüger would have known how to respond in kind
