    Default IL-2 construction

    Hi All,

I am building a 1/48 IL-2 and Im asking about the construction. Ive seen a build where someone has done partial wooden covered/constructed wings. Was it a mixed construction aircraft or were the wings 100% metal

    Any help gratefully received

    Cheers

The straight wing variants had wood outer panels, from the landing gear out. Full wood spar etc. and fabric covered, doped and then painted. the swept back ‘aero’ wing was metal. Both versions were made at different factories to the end of the war. The aft fuselage on all Il-2’s was wood from the gunners section back. The horizontal stabilizer was metal.
