As a kid ( about 45 years ago ) we used to play with little jet planes made of plastic
which were propelled by an elastic band that you hooked onto a nub on the lower
front end. These were modelled after the F86, so I have a soft spot for them !

Thanatos-it can be argued that the CAC Avon Sabre was a new aircraft given the immense amount of redesign needed to get the Avon engine into a new fusilage and the rearming with 2 30mm Aden cannon.

To true, alot of rework to fit the RR Avon.I think around 50% of the fuselage required modification to fit it in.
The CA27 I think was also the first Sabre to carry the IR Sidewinder AAM.But I may be wrong there.
All said,It's still a Sabre to me.
    Cheers mate

The MIG-15 appeared before the F-86, in fact they had to stop B-29 bombing missions until enough F-86's arrived. The F-80 & F-84 were no match for the MIG-15. It's only advantages ofer the F-86 were it's reate of climb, they could out run the F-86 into the coulds. The other was their fire power, cannons galore. But, in the end it came down to the pilots, ours had about half of their flights with WWII pilots.
