I have this one in hand. It was one of a few pieces I "found in the closet". What do you guys think? I know it was rather stupid of me, but I pulled the TK because I just couldn't take it anymore. This is what I have found. My main concern is the stitching around the bottom outside perimeter of the hat.

Thanks, Mr. Stevenson. I was quite skeptical but there are a few things that are rather attractive. Other than the stitching, what about this cap sets off the alarms?

The insignia is bad for starters, but as we know that can often be the case on what are otherwise good caps.

The cap lining and the way it is attached is bad too. The overall cut of the cap does not measure up to the high standards expected. You had already pointed out the other obvious bad points.

Definitely a product of the 4th Reich. As Ade said, the quality is far below standards for a SS officer schirmutze. Also note the absence of any RZM markings.
