I've seen people post about salty items but not sure what it means? lol

The term salty today also includes totally worn out and / or screwed up. Most items described as salty today I wouldn't own.The cap in question just doesn't grab me personally.

Ok, so the cap itself looks original IMO. But, whether the leather peak is original to the cap is another matter and can not be determined by photos alone. I have to admit that I'm not at all sure of the leather peak though because it doesn't exhibit the patina of a period one IMO.
