Hi Larboard,
4 unusual things: golden buttons? Green lining? Grommets' (how would you call these things correctly, F.-B.?) unusual look inside? Rude stitching to the badge? Looking forward to the experts's opinion!
The yellowish tint to the buttons is probably a reflection of the lights on in the room?
The "grommets", vents I have seen period pics of two, although most have none, and some have one.
Yes, the stitching of the emblem is not very good, but the emblem looks real?
I am still very much looking forward to the experts opinions.
Thx!
Good evening Laboard,
my concern was not the fact that there are vents, but that these are 2-piece-vents.
Meanwhile I have checked here: Let's see your Heer M43's
and the very last photo
https://www.warrelics.eu/forum/attac...s-img_5374.jpg
proves that there were 2-piece vents. One never stops learning.
I don't know anything about emblems, so this is one for the specialists.
What still makes me think are the buttons, the lining and its underneath - in your last pic there is something white visible under the tear of the green shiny lining. Will be an easy one for M43 specialists and I am as eager to hear their opinion as you.
Thx ErWeSa, yes, I saw the same pic. In another thread, I think Ade shot down a hat for not having backing washers behind the vent grommets?
The white I forgot to mention are "remnants of a glue that was used to hold in a leather sweatband", per the owner's description. This person seems to not be very knowledgeable of any TR related items, not even knowing that the emblem is Polizei.
I didn't mean the stains (horrible vision of fixing a sweatband with glue) but the material underneath the lining of the top-panel under the tear in the middle (the most common material I know of which should be there is cheesecloth - for visor caps -, there were, hoewver, other materials):

Will be difficult to get the owner check this if he has no idea of caps, though.
Looks like the bill was added on vs construction of other M43 caps?
I'm still stumped here (of course I'm not qualified to pass judgement on this type of item), 37 members have read this thread, including the usual experts and no easy decision as to whether it's any good or not, or what is it?
I appreciate whatever time you spend on this, I know how time consuming research is. I've probably looked at pics of a couple hundred genuine wartime M43 caps since posting this and I'm any closer to figuring out what's going on with this one.
ErWeSa, I'll ask the seller to look through the lining material to see what's behind it.
Here is what he wrote back about the material seen through the hole.
It looks like wool. It's coarse looking and white in color.
He also mentions that it's a pretty small size, for a youth?
