It's the Ehrenzeichen des NS-Reichskriegerbundes in Silber [Decoration of the National Socialist Veterans' League in Silver; there was a gold grade, too].
This badge replaced the older decorations of the Kyffhäuserbund, which were no longer authorized for wear.
It has no business being on that cap; it was worn on the NS-RKB armband on the right lower arm. (The cap is not an NS-RKB cap to begin with, as those were dark blue.)
Thank you much! I see the Kyffhäuserbund was disbanded in 1943, were these only given during the war or after as well?
I don't know when exactly the badge was instituted, but it would have been awarded up to the end of the war.
Only the national- and regional organisational levels of the NS-RKB were disbanded in 1943; the local groups were subordinated to the NSDAP and continued until the end of the war. In 1945, the NS-RKB (along with all other Nazi organisations) was completely disbanded and banned by the Allies.
The Kyffhäuserbund was re-founded in 1952 and still exists today.
I don't know whether awards of this badge were resumed by the post-war Bund. (Personally, I consider it possible, as its design never included a Swastika and because they are so common on German eBay and militaria sellers' sites. But please note that this is pure speculation on my part. It is definitely no longer among the Kyffhäuserbund 's current awards, though.)
