Hi Carfin,
Not really my area so I may be way off beat here but the twill material reminds me of the early bundy caps as do the buttons. What is the width of the peak ? This I find the best way to distinguish between m43 or bergmutze………..sorry to start from a minus but hopefully things may go forwards from here. Looking at the application stitches, Do you think the insignia has been added post war ?
cheers
Tony
Bonsoir Carfin LEWYS,
I don't think this to be tropical (although the fabric is similar) as the colour seems to have been field grey. I seems to have bleached under sunlight - check the colour of the fabric under the flaps and under the badge if possible (as Tony said it could have been added post war).
Not a Bergmütze shape in my opinion - a bit too floppy. Some things are throwing me off. It appears to have fake aging on the inside and the marking Leutn in the sweat band does not seem right. German short form would simply be Lt. A good judge would be Patrick Kiser. I would say it appears to be a ginned up (altered) Bundeswehr cap as Tony mentioned. I've attached another ginned up Bundeswehr cap for comparison. NH
Hi Gentlemen,
Thank you for your quick replies.
The peak is 11 cm width. & the stiching of the "T" insignia looks, for me, not WW2, but I am not a specialist for M43 caps or Bergmütze.
An antiquity dealer propose the cap for a lot of money; I would not buy a copy, so I need your help.
Best regards from Alsace , France.
Carfin.
Don't buy this one then. That would be my best advice. There are some for sale on the larger dealer sites to help with a price and quality comparison. cheers Tony
