Hi Doug,
I'm no specialist for this kind of cap but - you might have noticed this yourself - the badge seems to have been reapplied (handsewn). There is an interesting thread in this forum about RBNr - perhaps you'd like to check this here: The Reichsbetriebsnummer RB numbering system.

It looks like an original Heer Other Ranks M43 cap that has had the trapezoid insignia replaced (post-war) to me....

Yes there is doubt about the re-sewn trapezoid. Thanks for the comments.
