They are mate, no question!

Handle as many as you can plus look to buy a really salty one to begin with, one so knackered no one else wants it. It will obviously be cheaper but will also teach you a lot about what a real one looks like.

If I see one that fits the bill, I'll let you know.

Hi Andy, yes that pic is perfect.

Here is a pic of my Luftwaffe Einheitsfeldmutze which shows the reinforcing bias which should be in place on the underside of the upper edge of the turn up to reinforce it.

These caps are indeed a nightmare. Fakes outnumber originals by a good 10 to 1 or more... You would think they would be more common, but use in the POW camps and post war stripped civvy wear just killed these.
