Hi all. I'm fairly certain I already know the answer to this one, but I'd like some opinions nonetheless. The detail in the wreath has me wondering if at least some of this cap is authentic, if not the whole thing. But my gut tells me it's a repro based on some of the other details.

    Thoughts?

Brand spanking new...with a wee touch of dirt to dress it up abit. It's Possible the wreath May be period off of Something, but doubted if it's from a KM. The wreath leaves should look taller and nearly touch at the top. The whole rig is definitely set up to deceive, so who knows.

Absolutely postwar. The peak embroidery is all wrong, as is the construction of the cap itself. Peak edge binding looks like plastic rather than leather. Chinstrap is also of the wrong pattern. Eagle may be original.

What do you guys think about the wreath at least? Like Wagriff said, maybe not KM but something else?

I think the wreath is also a modern fake, just artificially aged. The outer black ring of the kokarde should roughly the same width as the silver inner ring and should be made from a black twisted wire of similar gauge to the silver wire. On this one the black outer ring is only around half the thickness of the silver ring and there is no black material at all for the black outer ring, its just the plain backing material of the wreath between two silver borders.

    Compare with this original.

    100% postwar, top to bottom.

Its also worth mentioning that this isn't the set up for an NCO but for a junior grade officer.

Here is an original white top NCO Visor Cap.

Note that when you remove the white top, there is a full lining still in place, typically blue and with a white cheesecloth facing. The cap band stiffener on original wartime issue caps is almost invariably made from either celluloid (same as on the sailors "Donald Duck" caps)which becomes very brittle over time, or a woven white or black buckram type material treated with a waterproof surface.

Looks like this cap has no lining so that if you remove the white top all you are left with is a cap band and peak, typical of postwar fakes. I would also guess that the band stiffener is treated cardboard, another red flag at least as far as original issue caps are concerned.
