sorted it mate dont know whats happning tonight!!
Hi Ewan, the Police is not my chosen subject, but I have several concerns.
First is the cap badge: what is it? Usually these were silver/grey on black backing.
Second is the cap: it lacks the air vent grommet which should be mid way down the cap on the upper part.
Third: construction of the top seams.
Cheers, Ade.
ade thanks for the comment does all side caps have grommets? or just the police ones?
cheers again
Hi Ewan, lets just talk about Police caps to keep it simple As far as I know, enlisted mens Police caps had the vents.
Cheers, Ade.
Take a look at those listed here:
The Collector's Guild
They would be much more to my liking. Note the construction of them all. One does not have grommets, but I suspect it might be private purchase?
I am not saying the one you show is fake, but it just does not appeal to me.
Cheers, Ade.
cheers for the infos and link ade
Ewan, actually i believe this is supposed to be a Polizei Schiffen as used by combat police which does not have air vents. There is a photo of a similar one in the Wilkens TR headgear book. I'm not sure if this is a good one or not but the cut and the stitching don't look right. As Ade said the the color backing on the insignia should be black but on this type it can be dark green or blue rayon. The only thing missing is the metal cocade just below the v crease.
I include photo's of my schutzpolizei cap to show the difference in types of caps. Note that mine does not have air vents either
Good luck, Al.
Here is another example of a similar one to what you have shown, note the stitching detail
