Repo or what it is?

I picked this up approx 10 years ago, and have always wondered if it was real or repro. If it is real, can anyone tell me what it is, even if its fake, what is it supposed to be? In getting the wifes grandfathers items displayed, I figure it's time to see what this is. Any help is appreciated!

It is supposed to be a Wehrmacht General Officer visor. However, I am sorry to say it is a fake.

Thank you for the information! When I got it, the seller did not know if it was real or not. Came in a package deal with a luger and double decal firemans helmet...i always wondered about it. Thanks again, your help is greatly appreciated!!
