My question is if this cap was a post-war German military cap prior to being converted. The reason I ask is because of the sweatshield "diamond" being removed. Is this the case on this one?

No because plastic diamond is easy to detect...
Stamps look pretty poor too me, sweat shield being removed is easily noticed
The complete cap is an abortion.
