I have doubts that this is a German Cap to begin with...It looks more like an Italian (?) Cap ...
cheers, Glenn
I stand corrected!...Thanks for the info my friend!
cheers, Glenn
must admit,my 1st thoughts were Italian too.
Here is a description from the guild. Answers the Italian question.
BACKGROUND: The "S.A.-Wehrmannschaft" (S.A.-Defense-troops) were formed in January 1939 to provide pre- and post-military training to all civilian males aged 18 to 65 years old. Originally, standard S.A. uniforms and headgear were worn until the official introduction of a S.A.-W. uniform in December 1939. One of the items introduced was a distinctive forage cap, based on the Italian "Bustina" field cap, with a national eagle and swastika sewn to its upper left side and an S.A. cockade to its front.
This form of cap I included in volume 3 from "Headgear of Hitler's Germany",
published in 1998. So, eightteen years ago........
Pages 516 through 521 were for SA-Wehrmannschaften.
When you have a good look, you will find more of them in the forum from
Pascal Bernhard.
Your example appears to be 100% period original.
