Have a chance to take this SS Schirmmuetze. All stitchings seems old and with some moth damage, but I've never seen the variant with grommets/ Any chance?

not saying yes or no,but I have never seen a tr hat with them air vents in.
There is a precident for air vents and I think the original picture of a cap with them has been posted on the site.
This particular cap I would say is not worth the risk as it is ss, branch colours and air vents............not a good combo IMO and the cap I have a bad feeling about.
Not worth the risk.
cheers

I too do not like the grommet holes different is not always good
I personally like the cap. The grommet vents do not bother me as I have seen them occasionally on other period hats. It certainly appears that there were some well fed insects wherever this cap was stored. Variations should always be looked at with the eye of a sceptic. Variations do not always indicate a reproduction.

Thanks FB for providing vented caps. Learned something new today. awesome!
What I enclose is plainly not a cap from wartime, to be sure....but these are real SS caps of their time.
Once again, the old adage of "i HAVE NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE" is neither a confirmation or denial of an item's authenticity. The only way to learn is to study construction of the many period SS caps found in the archives of this Forum.

What I can say- the Schirmmuetze has been never disassembled, repaired or tampered , I've just thought that it may other branch of service than a SS.
