Are these 2 caps authentic period pieces?

To me, the top one looks as if it started its life as an NVA cap, and the bottom one appears to be from the post-war (West) German Luftwaffe.

I would also recommend as a beginner to purchase Gary Wilkens The Collectors Guide to Cloth Third Reich Military Headgear. I have been told that it has some flaws (which every book has) but these are minor and are far surpassed by the wealth of information it provides.
