Hi bboy, I am no expert but a pith helmet just like the one you have posted is featured in Ken N's German Helmets book as a first issue/model Navy pith helmet. Only thing is the eagle on his one is slightly larger than on the one you have posted but otherwise exactly the same! Cheers, Sean.

My understanding is that these ones were pre war with the smaller eagle..ive only seen one other pith like this with the exposed vents..so im a little unsure..thanks Seandm.. edit, the latest info is around 1936

A good pre war example of the type. I saw one in an antiques shop one evening in the dam, but it was gone the next day when I went back.
