Hopefully my small knowledge on caps is enough to decipher that this cap is not a period piece. It lacks quality, the piping is not on properly. The cap band doesent seem proper either, as it is lumpy and that is a tell tale sign of a fake.
Though I would wait for more members who are more experienced with caps to give there oppinion aswell, I could well be wrong.

Hi, and welcome to the forum!
The cap is indeed a fake.
Cheers, Ade.

Complete fake from top to bottom.
Well done Pat!
Hello Renson-
Welcome to our Forum. Genuine branch piped SS caps are a real rarity. In all of my years collecting, I have only seen three. When a thread starts out referring to a branch piped SS cap, it is a natural assumption that it will be fake. Besides the flaws pointed out by my colleagues, the cap has a vinyl sweatshield which is a material never used during the 3rd Reich era.
If you were judging ten branch piped SS caps for authenticity, eleven would be fake.

Hello Renson, welcome to the forum.
Pat, I'm impressed. Well done with your explanation.

Thank you friends, you are all too kind. Thank you for all the help, I am slowely becoming a bit more autonomous with caps. I am lucky to have original caps to study, and a nice selection of books. I should get D.Beavers book on SS headgear but I havent got round to it yet. It is also excellent that there is countless of original material shown from Friedrich and the wonderous help from our cap mods. A big Bravo to them
Cheers, Patrick
