Thanks for looking at this WSS officers visor. Does anyone know who would have made it? I have not seen the logo before. The eagle is a M1/167 (Hinke, I think). The skull looks like a Deschler? It is made of soft grey/green wool. The stitching for the cap band is underneath the perished rubber pad. I am pretty confident it is good, but your expert opinions would be welcome. Thanks.WSS Officers capWSS Officers capWSS Officers capWSS Officers capWSS Officers capWSS Officers capWSS Officers capWSS Officers capWSS Officers capWSS Officers cap

As nobody else commented on this cap so far I'll have a go. Materials and construction seem O.K. If it is a fake it is none of the obvious fakes.
I can't remember having seen this logo ever before either which doesn't mean too much but perpaps it is a give away for the specialists.
I can't comment on the badges as I don't know a thing about them. If the cap is a fake it must be an early one.
I'm curious to read what the specialists think of this.

    Maker is legit, but unknown.
Nothing I see here causes me to dismiss it out of hand, but I am not going out on a limb to say it is original.

WSS Officers capThanks for looking gentlemen, and venturing an opinion. I know it is very difficult at times with photos. Obvious copies are...obvious, and with any SS item you almost have to believe it is fake when first viewing and then disprove that hypothesis. Handling items give you a much better idea. I'm sure if you handled this cap it would resolve any doubts. I bought it off a very respected dealer in the UK that I would trust (and there aren't many that I do). The insignia are original. I have no doubts about it. I'm glad the maker is unknown as I have never seen it before either. Thanks for your thoughts...Steve

Bye the way, I found a size marking that I hadn't seen before right at the back of the cap(attached)

I must completely agree with Stonemint's comments. As a accuracy clarification, this cap is technically a gray officer's cap and not exclusive to the Waffen SS. It could be worn by any SS officer wearing the gray uniform.

The caps with the doeskin cap covers drift more into the zone of contention because many of the remade caps also are rendered out of army extra wear caps
that have fallen victim to the chop shops of the fakers.

It is an unending story. You want to measure your cap to see if it is, indeed, 56 1/2 cms, too.

Grey SS caps are especially fraught with problems.

Good luck and thanks for sharing your things.
