Double BREASTED H J Leader Tunic

The rarely encountered double breasted H J leaders tunic. The owner held the rank of Oberbannfuhrer. As indicated by the I C 2nd class ribbon and multiple loops, this man held a rank in the military also. Note the gold tradition bar under the district triangle. This indicates that the owner was a member of the H J prior to 30 January, 1933

the armband is original to the tunic. The medals were added. The loops definitley indicate the owner achieved the H J gold honor badge. Of course, this is also indicated by the gold honor bar.

I would presume that this form of uniform was only approved for the rank of Bannfuhrer and up. Similar regulations governed the wear of the double breasted political tunic. i have seen only two period photographs of this form tunic in wear.

The double breasted tunics of Hitler Youth Leaders and Political Leaders are so very rare that it is easy to understate the scarcity. I have never seen any outside of Bob's collection.

Bob, this one has always been one of my favorites. I know I have a pic of Gerd Hein wearing one of these somewhere.

Bob H. is correct--the d/b tunics for PL are rare, but for HJ, "near extinct" is the best descriptor....
