Agreed the cap looks original from the photos. For Flakhelfers. Condition is kind of rough but, I would be happy to have it in my collection. A great addition at the price IMO, congrats on the cap and the upcoming wedding.

If it were mine I would leave it as is. The condition is part of the items history, and any attempt to restore it could result in further irreversible damage. Look in the headgear forum for information on what to do if it has moth eggs to stop the damage they may cause, but otherwise I would leave it as is. It is your item to do with as you like however. Just my opinion.
