Wow! I hadn't thought it might be period damaged! I thought an American vets son threw it at a tree! I was seriously wondering what happened and it appears I was possibly half right, a tree was responsible but not nessesarily done by American youth but possibly hitler youth! Thanks for the fine link.
Dean
Also looks my lesser knife was used as hammer too.
.
a multi tool back in the day mate! safe to say you will be leaving well alone now
Yes definitely ! They will remain as I found them.
Nice display mate
Hi Dean,
best to leave both knifes alone, these knifes took some serious punishment from the hj boys
they also used the hilt & pommel of the knife as a hammer when nailing up posters around the streets
if your not happy with the condition of 2 knifes you have, you could always sell them on & buy an early knife with motto as a keeper that you will enjoy more
Regards Mac 66.
These knives originally sold for 1.50 RM - not all that cheap back then
considering the economy - but as said, some were used/abused.
Displaying this knife with pics of HJ knives being thrown and stuck
into a tree is a great idea, but so is the idea selling both and
buying one in excellent condition.
Something to think about.........
Regards,
Steve.
I would agree that some to alot of the damage on these knives are period done, the same goes for the sharpening, imagine being a boy scout and the things you would use it for and do with it, it certainly would not look brand new on its last day of service!! this is one of the few knives that most collcetors would agree is OK and displays nice even with some damage/sharpening especially considering its past. of course a minty one is nice also but that means the price isnt lol Nice items!!!!!
