I am purchasing a new one, but will hold on to this one also.
I honestly just can not comprehend why a forger would stamp an S, extra work for nothing.
It just makes no sense. Two ss I am use to, one is just odd any way you look at it.
I will put this one next to the champagne decal ss helmet....jk.
I honestly believe more research is needed. Either way, it will not hurt to buy another one.....just in case.
Interesting subject!

I do not presently have an S marked example in my collection but it is unlikely that I would purchase one now just in case. If I did have one, I would not automatically toss it, just in case as well.

I think there is more the story than the forum thread on HJ forum. I will keep mine just in case since there is no 100% answer.
Actually both the badges I have shown appear to be 2 piece - Bronze has alu backing and Silver one appears to have bronze backing. So there is more to the story - could they both be replacements then ?

The silver would be marked B in that case, if you go by the rules.
Hiscoll just sold a mini on of these.....without the S.......but same construction.
So "they" made fake minis also, going by the rules.
Mini pics. Description says it is cupal.
The S marking is the code to crack.......if there is a code.
Refinished on the front me thinks.

These cupal / S marked badges have a frosty look to them.

One by one over a few years. Patience is the key.
Only one is missing the pin but it was a maker I did not have yet and the price was right.

Maybe there is a reason for that?

Are you going to go for gold?
Only if I find a nice one and the price is right.
I am kind of addicted to black as that is what the photos of my father show him wearing.
