Gentlemen, I show a 1957 Bundeswehr regulation ribbon bar, came with photograph of original recipient , a Deutsche Kreuz in Gold winner, Ewald Holten who won the Deutsches Kreuz on the 27. Oct. 1944, as a Hauptmann in Grenadier Regiment 532......after the war he went on to serve in the Bundeswehr, retiring as an Oberst in the 1970's .
The bar shows:- Deutsches Kreuz in Gold, Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse, Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse and
Nahkampfspange in Bronze.
The ribbon bar came with an original photograph of Holten as an Army Major in the Bundeswehr, taken in October 1961 when he was a General Staff Officer (Identified by unique collar patches) in 7th Panzer Grenadier Division, headquarters at Unna, North Rhine-Westphalia.
However it seems the bar is incomplete, as was common at the time, when a double row of bars where worn, they were often separate bars, in this case the second bar showing wound badge (Silver ?) and Infanterie Sturmabzeichen (probably bronze) is sadly missing..............
Prost ! Steve.
