I don't know if more highly trained is quite correct but certainly more specialised. As Steve said, the units role and responsibilities were absorbed into KSK and the job then was primarily battlfield int gathering as well as pathfinder type functions but bear in mind that at the time of the Cold War we were planning to fight a defensive campaign rather than an offensive one so there would not have been many pathfinder jobs to do. I know during my time a major idea we had to accept was that of getting stuck on the wrong side of a blown river crossing! We didn't dwell on that too much!!!
