Gents, I show an example of the "Scharfschutzenabzeichen" or sniper badge that is available for purchase at military outlets and canteens across Germany, it is not an official badge and is not, by order, to be worn/affixed on any official uniform, that is the official line............however soldiers mainly it seems reservists buy this badge, probably as a souvenir of a succesful shooting course or a good day on the range !
The design as you can see, is heavily influenced by the WW2 version, it has, according to contemporary writings been spotted affixed to uniform clothing, but that is rare, and no doubt it does not remain on the uniform long, if the Company Feldwebel has anything to do with it !
There is a design in waiting, seeking official approval, as it has been discussed in official BW circles as warranting such a badge for specialist forces recognition....but it is rumoured that it will be rejected due to inclusion of the "Germanic" style "S" which is the centrepiece of the badge, looking too much like an "SS" type rune symbol !
I show the badges as shown in Schuster's book on BW Army uniforms and equipment 1955-2010..........and an example I recently picked up for my collection.
Prost ! Steve.
